Distribution Japan (Tobi-shima Island, northern Yamagata Pref. and Kagoshima Bay and the Amami Islands, Kagoshima Pref.); 30-400 m.
Quote Previously recorded from Ibaraki to Miyazaki prefectures on the Pacific coast, Akita to Nagasaki prefectures on the coasts of Sea of Japan and East China Sea, southwest coast of Kyushu, the Izu, Ogasawara, Osumi, and Ryukyu islands (except for Amami Islands), the Nishi-Shichito Ridge, the Kyushu-Palau Ridge, and the East China Sea; first records from Tobi-shima Island, Kagoshima Bay, and the Amami Islands. Review of 65 Japanese records from 5 Oct. 1994 to 2 Feb. 2022 suggests that the species prefers water temperatures between 8-18 deg.C and inhabit depths (30-400 m) where water temperatures are suitable depending on geographic localities.
