Remarks Considered by some an 'aumakua (gourd 'o'opu). An 'aumakua is a family or personal god or deified ancestors who might assume the shape of animals or plants. A symbiotic relationship exists; mortals do not harm or eat 'aumakua and 'aumakua warn and reprimand mortals in dreams, visions and calls. This fish contains poison which is sometimes removed for those who like the flesh. Poison is sometimes fatal (Ref. 10340).
