Remarks 'Shad', i.e., term used for any clupeiform fish that differ from the typical herring in having a relatively deep body and in being anadromous and that are extremely important food fishes of Europe and No. America (p. 1079 in Ref. 11978); 'mooneye', i.e., term used to refer to fish of the genus Hiodon that ressemble shad (p. 770 in Ref. 11978).
