Remarks As per this reference, in old Hawaii the name of Hahalalu (i.e., Ha-ha-la-lu by syllables) or Halalu was used for the intermediate size, growth stage. This would be fish greater than 2 or 3 inches in length. In old Hawaii the other names of growth stages used in conjunction with this name were Pa'a'a and Akule.
