Comments: Type locality of holotype of Neolamprologus helianthus: 'Zaïre: Tanganjikasee, nahe der Siedlung Kamakonde (7°52'S, 30°18'O), etwa 110 Kilometer südlich von Moba' (Ref. 47158). Known from Kalo and Kamakonde, Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 47158).

Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 18 - 19; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 8-10; Taggstrålar i analfenan 6-7; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 6 - 7; Ryggkotor: 30 - 32. Body depth 30.2-33.7% of SL (Ref. 47158). A lunate, filamentous caudal fin (Ref. 47158). Caudal peduncle length is 102-114% of its depth (Ref. 47158). A yellow or orange-yellow body color with V-shaped markings on the preoperculum and operculum (Ref. 47158).
