Dorsal soft rays (total): 3-3; Anal soft rays: 3-3. Metamorphosed females distinguished by the following characteristics: club shaped esca, pigmented swelling anteriorly on base; tapering distal escal appendage, as long as diameter of bulb, with blunt tip and 3 small filaments on each side of base; short posterior escal appendage with broad rounded base and low, compressed, anteriorly emarginated distal ridge; barbel divided at base to form 5 primary branches, presence of frontal spine; caudal peduncle lacking subdermal pigment (Ref. 86949). |
