Family:  Synanceiidae (Stonefishes), subfamily: Synanceiinae
Max. size:  8.44 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 18 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Malaysia (Sabah, Borneo) and Indonesia (Flores);
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-6; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 4-5; Vertebrae: 23-24. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D XIII,6; pectoral-fin rays 12; pelvic-fin I,5; gill rakers 0 + 4-5; no suborbital pit; preopercular spines/skin flaps 5 (upper 3 spines relatively well developed; lower 2 rudimentary, covered with thick skin flaps) (Ref. 124583).
Biology:  The two specimens were collected by hand net (using SCUBA) from sandy bottoms with gorgonians and true corals (Ref. 124583).
