Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobionellinae
Max. size:  5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine, amphidromous
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Indo-Australian Archipelago, Singapore and Palau.
Diagnosis:  Color: light grayish brown to white ventrally; body with about 7 oblique to nearly vertical oval brown blotches or bars along sides; usually with a prominent pale-edged, vertically elongate brown blotch behind head (Ref. 44894).
Biology:  Inhabit mangrove estuaries as well as clear rainforest streams near the sea (Ref. 44894).

Country info:  Type locality, Port Mackay, QLD, BMNH 1871.9.13.179 (holotype Gobius platystoma) (Ref. 075154). Occurs in northern Australia, between Darwin, Northern Territory and Mackay, Queensland (Ref. 44894). Also Ref. 075154.
