Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan and India. Reported from Bangladesh (Ref. 1479).

Country info:  Several specimens of this species were collected along with B. dario. This fish resembles B. dario except for the difference in the patterns of bands and blotches of the body (Ref. 1479). However, Hamilton 1822 (Ref. 1480) considered this species as a color variety of B. dario.
