Biology:  Occurs in streams and lakes with slow current (Ref. 51717). Migrates upstreams where spawning takes place (Ref. 51717).

Country info:  Recorded from Qinghaihu Lakes (Ref. 51717) and Qaidam basin (Ref. 41093). This is the main commercial fish in Qinghai Province (Ref. 51717). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (extensive stocking in great inland waters)(Ref. 55380). Type locality: Koko-Nor [Kuku-Noor] Lake, Qinghai Province (Ref. 33021). Known from Qinghai Lake and Dalapa River(Ref.45622)
