Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits ponds, ditches and rivers in plains and submontane regions (Ref. 41236). Breeds freely in ponds, tanks and small streams. Utilized also as larvicidal fish (Ref. 4832).
