Definition of Term

holotype
(English) According to the Code, the single specimen selected by the original describer of a species to be the standard-bearer for the new name. (See also: paratype, Code, name-bearing type)

(French) D’après le Code, spécimen unique désigné par le descripteur d'une espèce comme le type porte-nom d’une espèce ou d’une sous-espèce lorsque celle-ci est établie, ou spécimen unique sur lequel un tel taxon est fondé lorsque le type n’est pas spécifié.
