Definition of Term

selection
(English) The natural or artificial process by which breeders are chosen from a population on the basis of fitness or phenotypic value. Artificial selection is the intentional manipulation by man of the fitness of individuals in a population to produce a desired evolutionary response. (See also: natural selection, artificial selection)
sélection
(French) Procès naturel ou artificiel par lequel les éleveurs sont choisis d'une population sur la base d'aptitude biologique ou valeur phénotypique. La sélection artificielle est la manipulation intentionnelle par l'homme de l'aptitude biologique des individus dans une population pour produire une réponse évolutionnaire désirée. (Portuguese) O processo natural ou artificial no qual os reprudutores são escolhidos duma população em face do seu "fitness" ou do seu fenótipo.
