Deep-bodied, somewhat globular shape; epidermis slightly to moderately inflated; dorsal fin rays usually 14-15; anal fin rays usually 4; pelvic fins absent; pigment saddle or bar on caudal peduncle after about 3.5 mm becomes confluent with dorsal trunk pigment by about 8 mm. Pigmentation: initially little dorsally, over hindbrain only; dorsal and dorsolateral trunk pigment present by 3.2 mm, spreads caudad to middle of dorsal fin base by about 3.5 mm, to caudal peduncle by 7.8 mm; saddle on caudal peduncle by 3.5-3.8 mm, spreads ventrad to form bar by about 5,1 mm; gill cover moderately pigmented; dorsally and dorsolaterally on gut, spreading ventrad. Juvenile: uniformly pigmented except on fin rays and illicium. Sequence of fin development: illicium and caudal, anal and pectorals, dorsal. |
