Vertebrae: 26. This species is distinguished by the following characters: P-V 3/II II I I 0/9; origin of first dorsal fin posterior to the upper base of pectoral fins, origin of pelvic fins directly below the lower base of pectoral fins; colour of head and body light reddish yellow, median fins black and paired fins translucent (Ref. 93879).
Inhabits coral reefs of bays at the reef edge, or on the reef slope at depths of 2-16 m. Individuals live commensally on the branches of species of coral genus Pocillopora, mostly with Pocillopora eydouxi (Ref. 93879).
