Known from Lake Chad (Ref. 51193), Chari River (Ref. 13364, 42909), and Benoue River (Ref. 3013, 39826, 51193). Since 1955 it is introduced in some rivers of South Cameroon (Ref. 50415, 51193), including Nyong River (Ref. 1978, 2920, 47441, 50133, 51193) and Sanaga River (Ref. 2920, 51193). A population originating from Melen, South Cameroun, was introduced in a pond of Abong-Mang, but after a dam rupture in 1961 it was released in the Nyong River (Ref. 50415). In 1968 it made its first appearance in the Sanaga River, probably originating from the Nyong River and colonizing the Sanaga River through the mangroves during high waters (Ref. 50415). Also Ref. 1978, 3514, 42911.
