Ranges from the Bering Sea to southeastern Alaska (Ref. 2850). Found abundant in the central and eastern Aleutian Islands, common in the northern Gulf of Alaska. A single dried specimen was found washed up on a beach near Kivalina, in the Chukchi Sea and the eastern- and southern-most specimen examined (UMMZ 129014) was taken in Frederick Sound in southeast Alaska (Ref. 89865). Also reported from St. Lawrence Island and Point Hope (Ref. 86838). Also Ref. 6876, 11366, 43939.
