Diagnosis |
This species is distinguished by the following characters: narrow bony interorbital (?40% pupil width); moderate interorbital trench with a slight groove posterodorsal to the eye; pectoral fin rays 17-18, unbranched; predorsal midline with 1-5 cycloid scales in the confined to about the middle third of the distance between the posterodorsal margin of the eye and the base of the spine of the first dorsal fin; upper border of opercle with a single row of 1-3 cycloid scales; alive and freshly collected specimens with oval red hyoid spots connected anteriorly in the midline (Ref. 102609). |
