Remarks Adult male have hooks on the anal and pelvic fins. Males and females differ in the relative length of the pelvic fin; anal fin in females slightly concave and almost straight in males; . females also reach larger body sizes and heights (Ref. 126164).

Diagnosis

Astyanax pardensis of the A. fasciatus complex differs from the rest of the species in the group by the number of precaudal vertebrae 6 (vs. 17); by the zig-zag shape of first portion of longitudinal band; differs from A. jequitinhonhae by the shape of the mandible which is rounded (vs. acuminate) (Ref. 126164).
