Remarks 'Loche' from Gallic 'leuka', i.e., whiteness (p. 427 in Ref. 9404); 'pintade', i.e., spotted like the pheasant with dark feathers covered with light colored (white) spots (p. 1439 in Ref. 11853), from Portuguese 'pintada, pintar', i.e., spotted/painted (p. 568 in Ref. 9404). Formerly applied to Epinephelus chlorostigma.
