Distribution: Western Pacific: Australia (southern Queensland to northern Victoria, Lord Howe Island), Norfolk Island, Kermadec Islands, and New Zealand. Coris musume, which was formerly considered as a synonym or subspecies, occurs in Japan (from Tokyo to Nagasaski), Ogasawara and Taiwan.
