Vertebrae: 60 - 61. Distinguishable from all the other species of Alabes by its low number of vertebrae and from all but A. hoesei in having 2 postocular pores. It differs from A. hoesei in usually lacking a posterior nasal canal pore, having more epipleural ribs, and a larger gill opening.
Occurs among weed and rock, limestone reef platform (Ref. 11331); also in seagrass and in vegetation growing on shallow coastal rocky reefs (Ref. 56640).
