Bones of head rather firm and not cavernous. Snout low, not blunt at tip, decidedly shorter than diameter of orbit and not protruding beyond mouth; width at frontal margin of orbit slightly wider than 1/2 length of snout. Mouth large, terminal, and lateral; teeth in villiform bands on both jaws. No teeth on vomer or palatine. Barbel filamentous, about as long as, or a little shorter than length of head. Gill opening wide, extending to a vertical through center of pupil. Scales cycloid. Mandibular ramus provided with but 1 scale row. Color pale. Jaws white. All fins dusky; dorsal and anal fins darkening toward edge (Ref. 54421).
