Comments: Known from the Kasai (Ref. 41590), middle Congo River (Ref. 41591) and Aruwimi (Ref. 106290). Specimens from Pool Malebo identified as Gnathonemus aff. angolensis (Ref. 45486). Report of Gnathonemus angolensis from Kapanga (upper Lualaba)(Ref. 11970) possibly refers to M. macrolepidotus. Also Ref. 3203.

Diagnosis: Marcusenius angolensis can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: number of anal fin rays 33, number of dorsal rays 26, anal fin length 25.7% of standard length, dorsal fin length 19.6% of standard length, and caudal peduncle length 17.0% of standard length (Ref. 75962). Colouration: colour in preservation: a homogeneous brown-ochre (Ref. 75962).
