Comments: Known from Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Timur, Banka and Biliton islands, Sumatra, Java, and Moluccas. In the Kapuas basin, Kalimantan, it thrives in small low-gradient streams with logs and leaf litter, but with no rocks nor stones on the bottom (Ref. 26761). Also recorded from Danau Sentarum National Park in the Kapuas basin, Kalimantan Barat, Borneo (Ref. 56749).

Belongs to the pogonognathus group with dorsal fin melanophores of one size instead of two and a distinct gap present between the pigment in the distal part of the fin between fin rays 3-8 and the dorsal fin base that is greater than the distance between two adjacent fin rays (Ref. 26761).
