Comments: A Lessepsian migrant to the Mediterranean coast, first recorded before 1943 (Ref. 72453). Common along the eastern Levant coasts. Occassionally large schools are caught by purse seine mainly in the southern part of the Israeli coast. Due to its small size, commercial importance is limited (Ref. 43448).

Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea and possibly Gulf of Aden; an immigrant into eastern Mediterranean Sea (Ref. 188). The names Herklotsichthys punctata and Herklotsichthys punctatus have been widely misused in the literature for another species, Herklotsichthys quadrimaculatus (Ref. 188).
