Comments: Species validity to be confirmed by further studies (Ref. 43239). Type locality: Sagami Sea (Ref. 46206). Ref. 43239 notes that this species as well as I. dofleini have been reported from the Sagami Sea by several authors. However, the difference between the two was based on the anal-fin soft ray count which is not sufficient to distinguish one species from the other. Therefore Ref. 43239 does not include I. fowleri in its list of species from Japan and is left for further review.
