Comments: Type locality, Anjingo R., Ankofia drainage, NE of Antsohihy, Antalaha /Majunga Province. Endemic to the Ankofia drainage basin and its tributaries, including Anjingo R. and Lac Andrapongy, in the northwestern part of the country. Place of occurrence are generally shallow, clear, moderate ro swift flowing, subject to vast seasonal fluctuation in water level and flow rate. Common in the small and densely forested Bemahavony R. within the reserve than in the surrounding larger river channels (Ref. 41510).

Épines dorsales (Total) : 13 - 14; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 9 - 11; Épines anales: 3; Rayons mous anaux: 8 - 9; Vertèbres: 26 - 27. No large, black blotches or bands arrayed in series along the lateral midline. Second pharyngobranchial tooth plate with 2 rows of teeth. Robust unicate process of the first epibranchial bone at least twice the diameter of the anterior arm. Reduced angle between arms of the first epibranchial. Gill rakers on lower limb 10 (modally). Supraoccipital crest with truncate and rounded postero-dorsal margin. Fin coloration in life deep orangish-red. Anterior chest scales embedded and reduced in size.

Specimens collected in shallow, clear, moderate to swift flowing water; also from deeper pools or from under overhanging banks and vegetation. Diet highly variable, apparently an omnivore (Ref. 41510).
