Espinhos dorsais (total) : 9; Raios dorsais moles (total) : 20 - 22; Espinhos anais: 3; Raios anais moles: 16 - 18. Greenish blue above, silvery grey below; blackish blotch on upper opercular margin; caudal fin yellowish (Ref. 3197). Adult males with 3-8 central dorsal and anal filamentous rays; LL with 17-29 scutes.

Adults inhabit coastal waters of the continental shelf (Ref. 5213, 7300).
