Espinas dorsales (total) : 0; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 7; Espinas anales: 0; Radios blandos anales: 8 - 10. Diagnosis: Amphilius pedunculus is diagnosed from A. jacksonii, A. ruziziensis and A. lujani by its deeper caudal peduncle, caudal peduncle depth 9.9-12.3% of standard length vs. 4.8-9.5%, and from A. ruziziensis and A. frieli by its wider interorbital width, 28.1-35.8% of head length vs. 23.4-27.7% (Ref. 103388). It is distinguished from A. crassus by its longer caudal peduncle, caudal peduncle length 16.0-18.8% of standard length vs. 13.3-15.5, and shorter dorsal-fin insertion to adipose-fin insertion length, 37.5-41.7% of standard length vs. 42.2-44.6%; it is further diagnosed from A. frieli by having fewer total gill rakers on the first gill arch, 7-9, rarely 6 or 10 vs. 10-11, rarely 9 or 12 (Ref. 103388).
