Fish affected: Esocidae, Cyprinidae   
Symptoms: Erratic, rubbing objects, leeches causing petechial haemorrhges, characteristic feature of parasite, length: 10 to 50 mm.   
Treatments: Bath with 200 g Cao/100 l water for 5 to 10 sec. Treatments cited in Ref. 45600 are 0.5 ppm Dipterex (Dylox) or 0.25-0.8 ppm (Al) Masoten (Neguvon). Also analogous organophosphates like Malathion would also yield good result; note: Adjustment of a higher dose is recommended for high temperatures. Removal of leeches in the body of fish could be attained by flush treatment of 5 ppm of CuCl2; 0.5 ppm copper sulphate for 5-6 hours or 25 ppt NaCl for one hour. Ponds should also be treated with 2500-3000 kg per ha of unslaked lime before stocking (Ref. 45600).  
Prophylaxis: Disinfection.   
Remarks: This parasite was recorded to transmit SVC virus to Carp (Ref. 45600).
