| Notas | Adults occur in coastal waters in moderate depths on the continental shelf, particularly close to deep submerged reefs or rough bottom (Ref. 27621). They occur in small schools or more commonly as individuals inshore (Ref. 27621). Juveniles tend to remain in shallower water than adults and are rarely found in waters more than 100 m deep (Ref. 27560). Westralian jewfish are territorial for most of the year, choosing a particular part of the reef (Ref. 27621). In shallow water it is not uncommon for a large fish to take residence in a cave or within a wreck and remain there for some years (Ref. 27621). |
