Ecology of Pomadasys commersonnii

Main Ref. van der Elst, R.P. and F. Adkin (eds.), 1991
Remarks Estuarine-dependent species (Refs. 122699, 122700) found in inshore coastal regions and estuaries (Ref. 122700). Often in tidal estuaries (Ref. 122702) and in tidal fissures (Ref. 11441) and can tolerate freshwater. It can jet a stream of water into the mud to expose crustaceans, worms and small bivalves which it feeds on (Ref. 11441), including fish (Ref. 5213). Dwells in shallow coastal waters, sheltered estuaries, and tidal creeks. Inhabits brackish waters. Demersal. Feeds on benthic crustaceans, mole crabs, shrimp, small bivalves, and small fishes. Spawns in open sea. Juveniles navigate towards estuaries and mangrove areas for food and shelter (Ref. 9773).
