Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Uropterygiinae
Max. size:  29.3 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Central Pacific: anti-tropical, Hawaiian Islands, Johnston Atoll, Rapa, Gambier, and Pitcairn Is, with westernmost records in the Tonga Islands (with 3 other members if this group).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Most specimens were collected in relatively shallow water on coral reefs and rocky areas along the shore, with one individual found at a depth of 12 m. Cryptic and rarely, if ever seen except when collected with ichthyocides (Ref. 85321).
