Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  16.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 73 - 91 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Mozambique (Ref. 5213) and Natal, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 30-30; Vertebrae: 25-25. Ventral limbs of swim bladder appendages bearing branches directed forward. Only 4 or 5 posterior appendages enveloping bladder. Females lack drumming muscles. Last pleural rib on 10th vertebrae. Mouth lining pigmented. Membrane between opercular spines paler posteriorly.
