Family:  Latilidae (Deepwater tilefishes)
Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 11 kg
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 45 - 495 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina and Florida (USA), Bermuda, Cuba, Yucatan (Mexico), Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Venezuela (Ref. 3276). Probably throughout Caribbean (Dooley, pers. comm.).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms. Possibly construct burrows in the seafloor sediments (Ref. 101572). Feeds on invertebrates and small fishes (Ref. 26235). Marketed fresh and is highly appreciated as a food fish.
