Distribution:  Africa: White Nile including the Sudd and Bahr el Jebel (Ref. 120561), Blue Nile (Ref. 3203, 120561) and Murchison Nile (Uganda) (Ref. 4903). Report from the Malagarazi River (Ref. 54847) questionable (Ref. 120561).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): -0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 33-36; Anal spines: -0; Anal soft rays: 24-36. Diagnosis: depth of body contained 2.66-3.25 times in standard length, length of head 4.66-5 times (Ref. 4903). Snout short (Ref. 28714), 20-25% length of head (Ref. 4903), deeply rounded and projecting beyond the mouth, which is situated below the nostrils (Ref. 4903, 28714). Mouth inferior; chin not developed, without swelling (Ref. 28714). Teeth notched in young fishes but worn and truncated in adults (Ref. 4903). 3-10 teeth in the middle of each jaw (Ref. 4903, 28714). Dorsal fin between one half and twice the anal fin length (Ref. 28714). Dorsal fin with 34-36 rays; anal fin with 24-36, its origin below the middle of the dorsal; lateral line with 55-65 scales; 12 around the caudal peduncle, which is 2.5-3 times longer than deep (Ref. 4903). Coloration: dark brown above, silvery-white below (Ref. 4903).
