Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Diaphinae
Max. size:  4.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range - 350 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: from about 18°S to 23°S, but west of the thermal front between upwelled Benguela Water and South Atlantic Central Water. Indian Ocean: disjunct distribution, one population off Sumatra, the other in Mozambique Channel and in the Agulhas Current. Western Pacific: Southeast Asian seas to 20°N. Recorded from Australia (Ref. 7300).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 13-15
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic species occurring in the upper 100 m at night (Ref.4066).
