Distribution:  Oceania: New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 8-10; Vertebrae: 29-30. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: pectoral ray 14; lateral scales 37-44; and absence of open sensory pores on the head (Ref. 138314).
