Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Balui River and Rajang River, Rajang River basin in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10. Homalopteroides avii can be diagnosed from all congeners by having a wider gape of 28.5-33.3% HL. It further differs by having the following characters: a lateral cephalic stripe; a deeper caudal peduncle; 20-22 circumpeduncular scales; 9 pelvic-fin rays; a total pectoral-fin ray modal count of 15; 43-45 lateral-line scales (Ref. 96077). Description: Description: Dorsal fin rays iii, 7½ ; anal-fin rays i-ii, 4-5½ ; pectoral-fin rays iv-v, 7-10, i-ii; pelvic-fin rays ii, 7 (Ref. 96077).
