Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal soft rays: 8-8. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: three unicuspid teeth on the premaxilla and four on the dentary; 12 circumpeduncular scale series; dark blotches on the trunk; large round dark blotches over the body; pattern of dark blotches on the body in adults including one large midlateral blotch below posterior dorsal-fin base that is isolated from neighboring midlateral blotches by a wide gap; 1-2 large blotches in region ventral to the lateral line between the pectoral and pelvic fins (Ref. 137758).
Biology:  This species inhabits high altitude streams with fast flowing clear and black water (Ref. 137758).
