Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 31-35. Gill rakers 17 or 18+1+40 to 42 on outermost gill-arch.
Biology:  Black water species. Feeds on mosquito larvae and other aquatic invertebrates.
