| Diagnosis: | Distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: a broad yellowish, vertical, crescent-shaped band in the middle of the caudal fin; deep black coloration on the outer margin of the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins; a relatively long dorsal spine (7.3-12.4 % SL) and outer mental barbel (15.3-21.6 % SL), and a short distance from dorsal-fin insertion to adipose-fin origin (13.5-22.0 % SL) (Ref. 86531). | |||
