Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  14.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range - 5 m
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania: Indonesia and the Philippines southeastward to Ponape [=Pohnpei] and Samoa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 32-42; Anal soft rays: 3-4. Body rings: Trunk 16; tail 30-31 (Ref. 6820).
Biology:  Majority of collections are from freshwater streams and rivers. Probably reaches 14.5 cm SL. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
