Family:  Zoarcidae (Eelpouts), subfamily: Lycodinae
Max. size:  37.5 cm SL (male/unsexed); 23 cm SL (female)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 298 - 1278 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Northwest Atlantic: restricted to the Arctic waters of Canada and immediate vicinity of Greenland waters.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 94-98; Anal soft rays: 80-84; Vertebrae: 100-104. Distinguished from other members of the genus by the following combination of characters: lateral line system ventromediolateral; pectoral fin rays 22-23; first dorsal fin pterygiophore associated with vertebra 3-5; preanal distance 43-46% SL; color brownish with 6-10 white bars or patches along the dorsal part of the body and dorsal fin; peritoneum black.
Biology:  Benthic; feeds on fishes (Ref. 58426).
