Family:  Rivulidae (Rivulines), subfamily: Rivulinae
Max. size:  3.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  South America: Paraguay, lower ParanĂ¡ and Uruguay River basins.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal soft rays: 13-14; Vertebrae: 29-30. Sides of body and unpaired fins of male with transverse rows of red spots. A whitish zone along entire caudal fin margin of male. Total caudal fin rays 27-29. Caudal fin elliptical, elongate longitudinally. Body depth about 20% SL (19.3-21.9% SL) (Ref 26657).
Biology:  Not a seasonal killifish. Difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
