Family:  Centriscidae (Snipefishes and shrimpfishes), subfamily: Macroramphosinae
Max. size:  17 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 255 - 610 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Mozambique (Ref. 5213) to Algoa Bay, South Africa; New Zealand (Ref. 5382). Also reported from New Caledonia and Madagascar (Ref. 33324).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-18. Uniform brownish red in color (Ref. 5382).
Biology:  Found on the continental shelf (Ref. 5213, 75154) and continental slope. Benthic (Ref. 75154).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 30 November 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
