Max. size:  3.58 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal soft rays: 17-21; Vertebrae: 30-31. This species is distinguished from lacustrine congeners in Malili Lakes by the following combination of characters: scales along lateral midline is 33-36; body depths of 20.3-25.5% SL; differs from all other Sulawesi Oryzias by having D 8-9, caudal peduncle depths of 10.2-11.4% SL, eye diameters of 8.5-9.9% SL, and with maximum length of up to 3.58 cm SL; breeding males with 5-8 black blotches or bars along the lateral midline (Ref. 119418).
Biology:  This specis inhabits the middle reaches of Doping-doping River, where water currents are moderate and the substrates are sand and gravel. A Nomorhamphus sp. was collected together with this new species (Ref. 119418).
