Description: dorsal body profile strongly convex; ventral body profile almost straight; dorsal head profile convex above eye; snout profile straight; snout of moderate size and pointed; mouth normal; gape inclined at about 10° to horizontal; maxilla extending to vertical at anterior margin of eye; outer oral teeth long and slender, bicuspid or tricuspid anteriorly, becoming unicuspid posteriorly; inner oral teeth small, short and tricuspid; 2-3 series of scales on cheek; upper margin of eye touching dorsal head profile; lower pharyngeal jaw stout; a series of enlarged pharyngeal teeth along centre of toothed area; gill-rakers on lower limb short (Ref. 55898).
Coloration: Preserved: Females and immature males: body pale yellowish brown; 6-7 pale brown to brown vertical bars below dorsal fin; base of dorsal fin pale grey; dorsal fin with white submarginal band and dark grey tips; grey oblique bands in soft dorsal; all other fins pale (Ref. 55898). |
