Two subspecies usually recognized: Platygobio gracilis gracilis in northern and eastern parts of range, and Platygobio gracilis gulonella in southern and western parts of range. |

Inhabits sandy runs of small to large turbid rivers (Ref. 86798). Feeds mainly on terrestrial and aquatic insects, occasionally on small fishes. Spawning probably occurs from June to August (Ref. 1998). |
